MPH Program Overview

Since 2013, the Johns Hopkins University's Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH), Baltimore, Maryland, USA in cooperation with the IIHMR University, Jaipur has been offering MPH degree program in Jaipur, India for students from Southeast Asian Region

The overreaching goal of this MPH program is to provide students with a population perspective on health build knowledge and skills to perform as an effective manager, leader or administrator in health systems, both in public and private sector. The MPH program is designed to provide students with critical multidisciplinary training to help solve global public health problems.

The full-time MPH program aims to develop students' competencies in the following core areas:

  • Social and Behavioral Sciences

Learning Pedagogy

The pedagogy in each course is selected judiciously, with an emphasis on involving the students in learning and helping them to relate concepts and theories to real-world situations in public health and its management. The program is conducted with intensive teaching and learning methods which includes coursework, capstone project in the first year and practicum experience in the second year all cumulatively totaling to eighty two credits.

Course Work

The MPH program offers students unique opportunity to attend the academically rigorous courses offered at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, USA and IIHMR University, Jaipur.
The courses are taught by distinguished faculty members from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the IIHMR University; who have contributed to meeting the challenges of public health and management of healthcare services nationally and internationally.

Capstone Project

The capstone project is an opportunity for students to work on public health practice projects that are of particular interest to them. The goal is to synthesize, integrate, and apply the skills and competencies they have acquired during the program. This project is mandatory for all students.

Practicum

Special emphasis is placed on practical training, whereby the students are required to undertake practicum in population-based health prior to graduation. The intent of the practicum requirement is to engage students in activities aligned with their career goals, as well as activities that demonstrate the application of public health concepts and critical thinking relevant to the student's area of specialization. The practicum experience involves a mentored hands-on experience, working and interacting with public health professionals.

Summer Institute at BSPH, USA and Travel Scholarship

The students will travel to Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH), Baltimore, USA for attending the Summer Institute. For the same, the students will be given scholarship from IIHMR University for attending the Summer Institute at BSPH which includes International and local travel expenses for Jaipur-Baltimore- Jaipur trip and lodging arrangements in USA during the coursework.

Faculty

Johns Hopkins BSPH faculty and IIHMR faculty with faculty appointments at Johns Hopkins BSPH will teach all courses. Students will attend courses taught by IIHMR faculty in person in Jaipur at the IIHMR campus. Students will attend on-line courses taught by Johns Hopkins BSPH faculty, in addition to attending one course  in-person in Baltimore, MD, during Winter/Summer institute at Johns Hopkins BSPH. Students will take the online courses with other Johns Hopkins BSPH students from different parts of the world who are enrolled in diverse academic programs. All courses will be taught to the same high standards for which Johns Hopkins BSPH is known worldwide. Johns Hopkins BSPH faculty will work with IIHMR faculty to tailor the content of Johns Hopkins BSPH core courses to the reality of India, with Indian case studies and examples.
